Highlights of our day:
-IGNITE had some new literacy and math centers
-some of us had a Roots of Empathy post baby visit where we talked about sleep patterns and read a story called Daniel's Day
-we had literacy centers and guided reading groups today
-we worked in 4 different groups to learn some new ways to tell stories using either loose parts, felt boards, post-it notes and index cards/watercolor paints-ask you child which group they were in today
-today was the second day we worked in our new math groups
-today your child came home with a new Home Reading page (pink paper), please let us know if your child did not get one or was away today and did not receive one
-Ms. Disher's group continued with the challenge to "find the value of a picture". We have been using cuisenaire rods (a math manipulative/blocks) to create pictures then add up the values of the blocks. Once we solved our problem of value, kids were challenged to create a new picture and the value had to be more than 100. They are currently working on this and strategies for adding multiple numbers. Below is the value of each color. Look at the two pictures created by students and see if you can find the value (add up the total number of blocks):
white=1
red=2
light green=3
purple=4
yellow=5
dark green=6
black=7
brown=8
blue=9
orange=10
