๐ŸŒŽ Happy Earth Day! ๐ŸŒ

Good Morning! Ms. Disher has a morning message for you...

Mr. Kai reads The Earth Book by Todd Parr for Earth Day!

TODAY'S TASK
Your daily task today will be found in your Math Group in Google Classroom.

To continue our Earth Day celebration, Peace Pod teachers wanted to share this short video with you all! We hope you enjoy it and that it helps get you thinking about Earth Day.
Please note: at the end of the video, it asks that you participate in a Unify Livestream and Global Meditation. This is not part of our EHS activities and you are not expected to participate in the event. We simply enjoyed the message and visuals of the video and wanted to share with you.

To continue our celebration of Earth Day, we wanted to share this fun activity from TinkerLab with you. This activity will walk you through the steps to make your our paper out of paper scraps you might have around the house. Why is this a great Earth Day activity? Well, I'm glad you asked! Making fresh paper out of old scraps is recycling, and recycling is one of the 3Rs! Also, as the activity suggests, you can mix plant seeds into your paper. Once it drys, hand it off to a friend and they can burry the paper to easily sprout some new plants! We hope you have fun with this optional task today!

New Google Meet Date!

Mark your calendars with our next Google Meet time. We are very EXCITED to see you again!

Date: Friday, April 24th

Time: 10:30 am

READ-ALOUD
Mrs. Bates would like to share the story Balloon Tree with you, by Phoebe Gilman.

TODAY'S ASSIGNED TASK
Subject: Language Arts
Name of Activity: Read to Self & Read to Someone
Purpose: I can build my reading stamina
I can choose appropriate good fit books and practice my reading strategies

Support: No support required unless a parent chooses to be a part of Read to Someone

Technology: Computer to copy the posters for student's office space, for reading no technology required.

Materials: 2 pieces of paper, markers/pencil or pen

Time Frame: 50 minutes

Task: Peace Pod Students do you recognize these signs?  Explain to your parents/siblings why we use these signs and what they are for.

1) Please copy these charts to place in your home "office space".  This will help you to remember the expectations for Read to Self and Read to Someone.
2) Once your signs are made and posted please set a timer for 15min and practice Read to Self using your iPick books you have gathered from home.  (Remember you can read the book 3 ways - read the pictures, read the words and retell the story).
3) Set the timer again for 15min and practice Read to Someone.  You can read to a family member if they are available or practice reading to a pet or stuffed animal.

Feedback:
Parents - if you are supporting your child during read to someone we have been working on getting them to practice asking for "coaching" or "time".  If they are stuck on a word you can ask them "do you need coaching or time?"  If they say coaching you can help them to decode the word, if they ask for time allow them time to apply their strategies to try to decode the word on their own.

Optional Extension:
Students who would like to can make a video of themselves reading and post to IRIS.

**We encourage all students to continue their daily home reading with 15min of reading daily.  If you would like to track this reading as we have done in the past you may print a copy of the home reading tracking sheet.

ADDITIONAL TASK

For your additional task today, Mr. Kai has an art project for you to do. Watch the video and follow along. Remember that there are no right or wrong answers in art. Just try your best and enjoy the process! We would love to see the final result if you want to share a photo afterwards.

  • Two (2) pencil crayons or Two (2) crayons - It is suggested you pick different shades of dark blue, purple, green, or grey.
  • Ruler (a cutting board or a large hardcover book would also work)
  • A cup

Have a great weekend!

๐ŸŒจHappy Wednesday, Everyone!๐ŸŒจ

Mrs. Bates has an idea to make today FUN!  Check out her morning message:
Mrs. Bates Morning Message

Hello everyone!  I hope you enjoy my read aloud for today (Ms. Disher!).  The story is Beautiful Oops by Barney Saltzberg...

Today’s Job: Access Google Classroom

Subject: Special Activity - Introduction to Google Classroom

Technology:

Materials Required:
*No additional materials required

Timeframe:
40 min

Task: *If you do not have a math classroom invite in your google classroom, email your responsibility teacher.
  1. Watch the tutorial video with Mr. Kai.
  2. Using your educbe.ca e-mail, log into Google Classroom.
  3. Join the class that you have been assigned to.
  4. Navigate to the “Classwork” tab and open your two assignments.
  5. Assignment #1: Watch the “Digital Citizenship” video.
  6. Assignment #2: Answer the multiple choice question.
  7. You have completed today’s task!

Additional Activities(these are optional and only suggestions/recommendations):

1.     Virtual Dice: Use the link below and you can roll the dice to practice your addition and subtraction facts.  Many of you have played this game with me (Ms. Disher!)

2.     It doesn’t look very spring-like today (more snow!)…BUT we can still all hear the birds.  Below is a guided drawing on how to draw a basic bird.  Add your own personality to the bird with color, texture, a background or make changes/additions to the drawing.  Remember how we have been learning about how lines create shapes and shapes create objects.  As well, curved lines show movement while straight lines don’t.  We can’t wait to see your birds as signs of spring!  You are welcome to take a photo to upload onto IRIS.  Challenge: when you are drawing the detail on the wings (the smaller curved lines), see if you can make an odd or even number!  Have fun!

Using your same printing notebook from last week you can continue working on your downer letters. (t and f)
Remember the following rules for downer letters
-Slow down
-Print letters from top of the line to bottom of the line
-Print letters on the line (no floaters)
-Print tall letters tall (l, t, f)
-Print small letters small (i)

For t, begin at the top of the solid line and follow straight to the bottom solid line, then cross.

For f, begin slightly below the top solid line, hook up and then straight down to the bottom solid line, then cross.
You can complete 2 lines of each letter in your printing notebook.
