Today's Read Aloud

Mrs. Campbell reads aloud, Strega Nona , a book written by Tomie de Paola. I hope you enjoy this story, and watch carefully, my dog decides to make an appearance and listen to the story too!

Todays Work:

Learning Intention: "I can count by 2's"

TOO MANY SOCKS: Ok Peace Pod here is your chance to make a mess (don't be too messy your parents might not like it) Empty your sock drawer!  Make sure all your socks are paired up.  Line them up and count by 2's to see how many socks you have all together.   Now I know some of you don't like to wear socks (hehe) so if your sock drawer is surprisingly empty see if someone else in your family will let you borrow the socks in their drawer.
Parents: If your child is having difficulty you can print this hundreds chart for them.  Ask them to color in every second number for each pair they have.  Ask them if they see a pattern on the hundreds chart (this will help them with understanding how to count by 2's).

Extensions: (These are optional)
1) What other things in your house come in twos?  Can you pair them and count them?
2) If you were to dress a dog in your socks, how many dogs could you dress? (Remember: Dogs need 4 socks - 2 pairs.)
