☁️A New Week, A New Start☁️

Welcome back after the long weekend! Mr. Kai has a Morning Message for you.

We hope you are all able to get outside and take a photo of a sign of Spring in Tuscany. Please upload your photos of spring here.

Our read aloud today is connected to the season of Spring! What signs of spring do you notice in today's story?

Mrs. Campbell's Read-Aloud

Today’s Job: Found Poetry - Create a poem using descriptive language

Subject: Language Arts

Technology: laptop/tablet/phone to view pictures and see word bank

Materials Required:
-Pencil
-writing notebook or visual journal

Support:
Parents will need to give their child the instructions and may need to
read the descriptive words out loud to their child.

Timeframe:
Task - 45 min

Task:
1. Look at photo #1. What do you see? What do you notice or feel? Think of 5-10 descriptive words that describe the photo. Write them down in a list or tell someone and have them write them down for you.
2. Look at the word bank for the photo. Read the words or have someone read them out loud to you.
3. Choose 9 words to make a poem. They can be a mixture of your words and/or words from the word bank. Arrange the words in a diamante poem. The words will make the shape of a diamond. See the example below.
4. If you would like to draw a picture to go with it you can.
5. If you finished quickly and have more time, move on to photo #2 and do the same thing.
6. Upload your poem to IRIS. Tag your responsibility teacher.

Extension: (optional): Draw a picture of spring and write a poem to go with it, or take a photo of spring outside and write a poem about that. If you uploaded a spring photo for our school, use that photo for a new poem.

Feedback:
- you can take turns choosing words from the word bank with your child to help create the poem
- word banks can be printed out if you like and the words can be cut out, arranged into a poem
and glued into your book (you may need to enlarge them first).

Printing Practice:
Using your same printing notebook from last week you can continue working on your downer letters. (t and f)
Remember the following rules for downer letters
-Slow down
-Print letters from top of the line to bottom of the line
-Print letters on the line (no floaters)
-Print tall letters tall (l, t, f)
-Print small letters small (i)

For t, begin at the top of the solid line and follow straight to the bottom solid line, then cross.

For f, begin slightly below the top solid line, hook up and then straight down to the bottom solid line, then cross.
You can complete 2 lines of each letter in your printing notebook.
