Monday April 6/20

Hello everyone!  We hope you had a fantastic weekend!  Loving all the photos of student work/tasks, keep them coming.

We want to welcome Mr. Kai back to Peace Pod.  He will be helping learners in our Pod going forward and we are so happy to have him back working with us.

Morning Message

We all thought of the book Smelly Socks by Robert Munsch after Mrs. Bates posted the task of counting socks.  We thought you would enjoy Ms. Disher reading the story.  Challenge...can you count by 2's but start at 1? (hint: 1, 3, 5...how high can you go?). Have fun!  Click on the link below to view Smelly Socks read by Ms. Disher...

If you did those jobs last week you can move onto today’s task.

Today’s Job: Printing Practice

Subject: Language Arts – Legibility

Technology: No technology required for this task.

Materials Required:
-Pencil
-Printing notebook

Support:
Parents will need to give their child the instructions but most children should be able to do this task independently.  Parents may need to check in to ensure students are printing letters from top to bottom.

Timeframe: This should take approx. 15 minutes.

Task:
In your notebook package you got from the school you should have a half journal that is dark blue. This is your printing journal. For today we would like you to take some time to print the “downer letters” I and i.  These letters are called downers as you start at the top of the line and move your pencil DOWN.

For I start at the top of the solid line and draw your line straight down.
For i start at the top of the dotted line and draw your line straight down.  After you have drawn your line you can return to add the dot above the line.

Please practice 2 rows of l and 2 rows of i.  Practice using a finger space by putting a finger space between each letter.  (tip: if you have a popsicle stick at home you can use this instead of your finger to put appropriate spacing between letters)

Feedback: Use the following checklist to help you with your printing.
Strategies for neat printing of Downer Letters:
o  Slow down
o  Print letters from top to bottom
o  Print letters on the line (no floaters)
o  Print tall letters tall (l, t, f)
o  Print small letters small (i)
